Reading their (Thermapen) website, they reference use for candy. No mention of testing oil (for frying)......anyone use for this or do you advise against? Been an old school guy, but need an oil temp gauge for frying and curious if it will work.

I use my Thermapen to check fry oil temps. Just be careful wiping it off after you check temps. A paper towel to wipe it off will remind you of how hot the oil is.They/Them

I've used mine to check frying oil many times.

Folding the hot probe is the worst part.

Same, use mine on oil all the time, I thinks I purchased it in 2008 and just recently checked calibration and it's still spot on.

I use it to check oil temp. You'll be fine. There's very little splash if there isn't anything frying. Clean up is a breeze.

works fine but its a slower read than meat internals
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
You can totally use your Thermapen. If you pick up a ThermoWork ChefAlarm it has an awesome clip that come with it so you can clip it on the side of your pot. This makes it really easy to test frying temps. Check out this post to learn more. http://www.thermoworks.com/blog/2015/11/time-make-doughnuts-temperature-matters/

It's not instant read at temps that high but works for oil. I've switched to an infrared thermometer for checking oil temp. Not super accurate but it's close and it's an instant temp reading.Aledo, Texas

Pssst ... buy a Mk4 right now and Thermoworks will throw in a ThermoPop for free.
Small shout out to their service side of the business. My TimeStick Trio decided to start resetting itself to zero last week. Didn't do it all the time ... just once in awhile. Called up Thermoworks service and explained what was happening. The service tech said, "that's not good, let me send you a new one." The "I really want to help you" attitude was appreciated.
