I am going to see how it goes.  It was sitting by the wood stove for 2 hrs.  Very warm to the touch now.  Gasket and adhesive should be soft...  Wish me luck!

I unpacked it, checked the results, and was pleased, so by the stove it went for about 6 hours to help cure it.  Then I went outside and took the old large out of the nest. The rubber appears to have taken a beating.  All four supports looked like this:

    Oh well, egg on, right?

    In in the nest:

Loaded her up with some lump and is ready for tomorrow's cook.

    Job is done.

The plastic pads all do that.  The problem is that sometimes they adhere to the egg ... and pull the glaze loose/off if you remove the egg from the nest.  I've taken mine off and thrown them away.

    Thanks @Jeepster47 I appreciate that.

Question, this new egg base has rubber on the vent tabs. I do not think my old one had them, unless I took them off right when I got it 5 years ago. Should I remove them? If they are going to melt like the nest pads did, I want to take them off now, not after they melt (if they are going to).

  • My tabs haven't melted, but I think at least one is missing.

The small tabs on the screen and the stop don't have the ends of the stainless folded over, so they tend to disappear over time.  The end of the tab on the solid door is folded over and doubled up ... after the egg heats up a few times the black tabs tend to shrink in place.
