    Got it.

I was thinking it had something to do with the Oregon occupants of the Federal land.

Like others have said, there are opportunities to mix accounting, what you may be good at, with law enforcement.  I've worked with FBI, DEA, DOJ, and IRS on matters including stock market fraud, money laundering, government contract fraud, bribery as a consultant.  Because I'm consultant, it was still desk work, but its a lot more interesting than what a typical corporate accountant does. The IRS, DEA, and FBI agents do get into the field, so you would have the opportunity to get out too.

Indeed.  Criminal Justice and Psychology BAs from UCF, former LEO, SWAT member, LE Firearms Instructor; then I went and got an Acquisition Management MS and now write Foreign Military Sales and Export Control cases for the Army.  A strange path from there to here.

Fwiw... Do what you feel led to do. One man's trash..... Not all people base their jobs or careers around money, hours, benefits, etc...
My neighbor is an office in the bad part of Nashville. He recently got another assignment but I've never heard him **** about his job. You're calling is your calling.... No one else's.

  • One of my best friends has been an officer for 20 yrs. from patrol to detective and now lieutenant. He's currently in Quantico doing 10 weeks of training with the FBI. He loves his job.

He's also one of the most humble, kind human beings you'll meet. He also has one sick sense of humor.

Most of the police officers my wife and I come across at work tell us the hours suck the pay is  awful and they couldn't imagine doing anything else with their lives.  I think it's like any other  career if you're in it for the money it's the wrong reason.  Most of them have a great time with us when they bring in the  train wrecks on Saturday night, and we can laugh about the fact they've pissed themselves several times.  But it's definitely not all fun in games for these guys, it's no fun when they come in injured and we have to take care of them.  It sucks to be honest when they become my patient.  Think long and hard about it and make your  decision, because it is a dangerous job and is often thankless.  Just my  two cents.
