For the most part those synthetic fibers don't come off as lint, they are continuous filaments as opposed to staple fibers like wool or cotton.
I agree about the cotton vs synthetic fibers. Today for kicks and giggles I pulled the lint filter screen out of our dryer after my wife ran a few loads this week. On pretty close naked eye examination I can't say I found much if even any synthetic fibers though there had been both in the washer and dryer. What I did find though was the lint contained dog hair! I would have thought that hair would have been removed in the washer, but apparently not. BTW our dog is a Westie and his hair is fine and short so maybe other dogs who shed hair then theirs is more coarse. Not sure my revelation will make any difference to use lint or not, but I thought I'd run my finding up the flag pole!  =)

You'll get the occasional long string out of a sock or nylon garment. Pills on a cotton/poly blend shirt are broken fibers from the cotton, for example. However, why chance it?  There are so many other ways to skin that cat.
Sounds like you might know something about filaments and fibers and stuff. Carpet maybe...

Actually, @nolabrew and I attended the same institute of higher learning. My degree happens to be textile engineering. So yeah, I know a little about fibers.
