Beef tenderloin at BJs

Options
I found this today sitting next to some select grade Tenderloins with the exact same label and price. The select ones were whole. They were thicker at one end and tapered down to nothing at the other. These appear to me to be two separate larger halves of two different Tenderloins packaged together. Is my assumption correct ? Or is this not really a Tenderloin. I go there about three times a month ( since 2003 ) and this is the first time i have seen this.
More meat please !! :-)

the tenderloins there used to be better, but last couple i got were cut up and horribly cleaned.  only the big end was very useable. one was cut almost in half like yours.

my thinking at the time was that the yield itself (how much is useable or whole, as opposed to sliced into) might cause an otherwise "choice" tenderloin to be marked down to select.

    but that's speculation.

normally i take off the chain (use that for tips), chunk off a roast (for chateubriand) and then slice the rest into steaks.  i got maybe four steaks after i sliced off the roast, and the rest got chunked up because it was so badly butchered before packaging

Those are two butt tenderloins.  The tail tenderloin has been removed.  IMO that's a more useful size, like Stike said, good for chateaubriand.   I don't sweat the grade with tenderloin.

cleaned and cut. I cleaned it ,but did not separate any of the meat. I'm going to wrap them in cooked, but very limp bacon to hold the shape and sear them. A little past rare will be my goal my goal.

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten!

Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing!
