Benefits of a woo???

can someone explain to me or show me some pictures what the benefit the WOO accessory has?  I'm still fairly new to egging. Thanks

    Many people want to cook with the grid raised. For those that already have a platesetter, the Woo raises the grid and uses the platesetter as a heat deflector. This was my situation.
    Some here will advise to buy an Adjustable Rig IF you do not have a platesetter. The AR seems to have advantages. Someone else needs to speak to this point since I don't have an AR.

    Basically a Woo is one of two ways to an end.

    The Woo in my MM was purchased to hold a wok as well as raise the grid.

    I have a pswoo2 and let me just tell you... Get yourself one, if you can't afford an adjustable rig like me.

    the woo allows you to cook raised direct for things such as wings or whole chickens. Makes the skin crispy without burning. Win win.

    also allows you (which is my favorite part) to take the plate setter in and out . Which can be a real pain when it's hot. 


  • As soon as my butt is done I will snap pics..  It allows you to cook at gasket level which beneficial to the indirect cook.  I have a grate over my platesetter with the woo over it..  I bought the ss drip pan to go with it so that it's not directly on the platesetter.  I love it so far and their customer service is awesome.

    I'll set my Woo on top of the BGE plate setter to get the grate above the felt line. A large drip pan fits under it on the lower ring for an air gap.

    The Woo was a solid investment for me.

    @bhedges1987 ... you might want to tell folks what size egg you're thinking about accessorizing with a Woo.  Exactly what they do depends upon which egg you've got.

    I have a Woo for each egg (except the one I have an AR for). I love being able to lift out the grid, drip pan and platesetter or stone all at one time. I like to add my smoke wood after I have everything all up to temp so the Woo makes this task a piece of cake.

    If I had to choose between my favorite two accessories for the way I cook, I would choose the Woo over a Kick Ash Basket.

    I use the Woo2 for raised grate  and indirect w/ platesetter all the time.  

    I find it to be a very useful tool.

    I do the same.  Ceramic Grill Store also has a 16" round drip pan that sits perfect inside the platesetter.  You can put everything together on the Woo2 and you can lifter the woo2, platesetter, drip pan, and grate out all together if needed.  

    Works very well for reverse sear when you remove everything, then just put the grate/meat back directly over the hot coals.

    Woo (with platesetter),KickAsh basket,Smokeware cap .That's the three essentials if you have an Egg,only my opinion for what it's worth .

    Can someone comment on the Woo with the raised sliding attachment and the D grid?

    @wbradking ... I have the extender and a D-grid for both the Woo and the AR.  On the Woo, it raises the cooking surface about 4" above the felt line.  Great for monster chops (1.5" thick) cooked direct at 550*.  Works well with the plate setter in place for indirect cooking of a gob of wings on both levels.  Adds grill space for extra ribs, butts, etc..  Mine gets used quite a bit when the grand kids are over.

    Here's a youtube video of the AR/AR extender configuration ... use your imagination and pretend it's the PSWoo2 with the OEM grid at felt line and the sliding D-grill positioned 4" above it with the PSWoo2 extender.

    I don't really use the Woo to raise the grate as much as I do to go between direct and indirect, or to remove an entire cook including platesetter to fix a fire that has gone bad (ie, black holed).

    As @Mosca said, one of the great benefits of the PSWoo2 (at least on a large) is the ability to easily and safely remove the indirect "assembly" from the egg to tend to the fire, smoke wood, or change the configuration.

    Here's how I use it for reverse searing steaks:

    1) Once the fire is started, a spider and 13" CI grill is installed.
    2) Then comes the indirect assembly (PSWoo2, plate setter, raised drip pan, and OEM grill.)
    3) On goes the steak at ~300* until it reaches ~115* internal.
    4) The indirect assembly is removed with the steak still on the grill.
    5) Open the bottom vent and the top vent ... takes about 5 minutes to go through 550*.
    6) Throw the steak on the spider/CI grill (it's about 4 inches above the coals) for a four flip, 45 sec per flip, routine to create crossed score marks.

    With the PSWoo2, it's an easy-peasy operation.

    I use my woo on my minimax to get the grate up since the firebox is so shallow. But the woo is not that great with the MM plate setter by the way. Hard to get them separated sometimes for my woo and plate setter.

    The woo for my large is for the cast iron and I love love love it. I never, ever, cook below the felt line anymore. I love the ability to pull the whole thing out, plate setter and all.. 

    I also have a spider with a CI grate so it's not to reverse indirect cook a large steak.. open vents.. pull the woo and plate setter, and have a raging hot fire and ci grate for a sear and I"m done.
