OT-- Columbia SC Eggers-- OT

Just left all ole timey meat market on Rosewood. Intent was to grab a Boston butt for this weekend. While there the guy had a whole pork belly on the table that he was getting ready to cut and freeze. I told him I would take it fresh and to wrap it up for me. 14lbs. He said another guy called to reserve it and never showed up to pick it up. If it was one of you who called to reserve it let me know and I'll save you one slice of bacon. Going into cure tonight and thanks for your tardiness...

Just curious.  How much was it?  I saw the 14 carrot health food stood in Lex had pork belly recently.  Meant to stop by but didn't make it.

Hey bud been buying it from ole timey for a few years. It has been as low as 2.29 a lb. This was 13.9lb belly for 3.99 a lb. $55 for 10-12lbs of bacon (final product) is not too shabby.

Cool thx.  I stopped by the Asian market in Irmo but they didn't carry them. I'll give Ole Timey a call.

They always have them frozen. Call them ahead if you want fresh and it will take them a day or two.

@Chubbs  What are you doing out getting things to cook in this lousy weather? Ben a nasty morning / early afternoon.

Was on my way home from work in charleston and swung through town to get some pork to stock the freezer this weekend.

BUMP—where are you local guys getting brisket? Costco only sells flats. Wal-mart only has select packers. Publix only has flats that are $1m. I am not looking for SRF. More looking for a choice or prime supplier I can “practice” cooking briskets with.

Is this the only place you have found packets in Columbia? Was hoping for a local source for prime but realize we aren’t in TX  ;)

The ol Timey Meat Market can chase one for you (quickly) if they don’t have in stock. Will be considerably higher in cost than US Foods Store.

Yeah I have tried them in the past and was expensive. The NY Butcher shop on Gervais/Trenholm intersection gave me a price for their packer briskets and I laughed out loud. Guess we need to open a place when I retire in 65 years
