It's only about $300 more than a similar XL package. That grill would have probably bounced off my truck and not cracked when running it over =)

  • Not nearly enough information on the site to make a decision. 304 stainless on outside and inside. Does this mean that it is built like a S.S. Thermos with a vacuum between the 2 layers? It would seem to me that without the heat sink of the ceramics, it would have a hard time maintaining your desired temps. Also the cost isn't a whole lot different than the BGE

1 large BGE, 2 small BGE, 3 Plate setters, 1 large cast iron grid, 1 pizza stone, 1 Stoker II Wifi, 1 BBQ Guru Digi-Q II, 1 Amaze N pellet smoker and 1 empty wallet.      Seaforth, On. Ca.

Agree with Ric Flair. One of my brothers has an Akron and is happy with it.

Another shiny steel kamado in the marketplace is sold by Kamado Joe. They have a "Pro Joe" which is pretty sweet. It actually costs more than a Komodo Kamado Big Bad at around $7,000. I'd rather have the KK Big Bad tho.

Viking made one that looked decent. They went on sale when they discontinued them a couple years ago they were around the same price as the one in this thread but made by Viking so most likely decent quality.

The rotisserie looks pretty cool (in the slide show).

They claim it is 40% more efficient than ceramic.  If there is insulation between the steel or if it is double walled vacuum that could be true.  I read a few independent reviews of the bubba keg/broil king keg years ago and they said you could lay your hand on the side of it while it was 700+ degrees.  It is basically like a big yeti rambler.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

SS is great for longevity.  But, in the summer it is blinding and hot from the sun.  I quite like the egg the way it is.

That is also true of the much less expensive Akorn kamados. They don't make a shiny all stainless model but they are insulated steel and can be barely warm to the touch. Very fuel efficient.

Or just a shiny knockoff of the original.

And when Rtic makes it it will be the same or better quality at half the price. I'd wait a few months for that.!

I had a keg. You couldn't do that.I also went through more charcoal with a keg. My food didn't taste as good either.
