OT - Wendy's Chili
...Or as our TX friends like to call "Wendy's Bean Soup." LOL
I have always liked Wendy's chili. Granted, I've made better at home plenty of times. But I happened to stumble across a Wendy's knockoff recipe the other day that I wanted to try. The simplicity stood out to me. I ended up tripling the recipe and used ground venison instead of ground beef. And I also used a little extra chili powder and cumin than the recipe called for. I'll be danged if this didn't taste just like Wendy's chili. Good stuff, and it serves as a great base if you want to tweak a coupla ingredients or proportions. Here is the recipe... I can't figure out how to provide a link since it came off of social media, so I'll just provide a screenshot to give credit where credit is due.
Here was my pot. I used a big canning pot and made a triple batch... ended up being 6 lbs worth of ground venison. It made 8+ qt sized bags of chili for the freezer. The recipe was nice and easy, especially since you don't hafta sauté the veggies. Just toss everything in a pot and you're all set. All of this cost us only ~$10 since the venison was given to us.

LOL - brace yourself. Recently I posted the knock off of Steak n Shake chili which I personally like as far as a fast food item. I sure hit a nerve or two. Maybe you will fare better!

I like Wendy's chili just fine. Usually add a good dose of hot sauce to it and it is OK.
-
I never eat ginger meat.
-
LOL @Lit. That is definitely one thing that is better with making it at home. Fresh ground beef or venison rather than fast food beef.
-
Looks great

LOL @BuckeyeFork ... That looks tasty!

Nerve or two @RRP ? I don't really see that. The shorts? Yeah, you did get a hard time over those in the steak thread.
Love you bro! -
I always thought wendys chili was made from hamburgers they didnt sell yesterdayXL Walled Lake, MI
-
I vastly prefer my own chili to whatever you get in restaurants.
That said, I will order Wendy's chili any chance I get. It's good.John in the Willamette Valley of Oregon -
The timing of this thread is pretty good. One of my favorite Youtuber's just did a video about making Wendy's Chili: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl1KrWwVRCs
-
@clintmiller , the guy in that video expressed his (and my) thoughts about the chili quality perfectly. Good stuff but even better made at home. Not competition, not Texas Red, but just a tasty and cheaper change of pace. Thx for the link!

It is. The base comes in a bag frozen. They chop up the meat left over from the night before if there is any left over then just heat it up. And yes I used to be a manager of a Wendy's when I lived in Memphis.1 XXL BGE, 1 LG BGE, 2 MED. BGE, 1 MINI BGE, 1 Peoria custom cooker Meat Monster.Clinton, Iowa -

@RRP I for one love Steak n Shake. When I was a younger man it was a great alternative to Waffle House at 2 in the morning.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.
