Brush for Cast Iron grate??
Boehman
Posts: 7
I've had my Egg for a year now, and I upgraded to a Cast Iron grate today! I'm afraid if I use my original grill brush it will scratch the cast iron all up. What should I use to clean the cast iron grate??
Thanks!
Thanks!

I never brush any of my grates. Just burn the gunk off when doing high temp cooks.Large and Small BGECentral, IL

I wouldn't worry about it. You'll just re-season it when you cook on it again.

I scrape mine down both sides with my ash tool. You won't hurt the cast iron but I'm leery of using any kind of brush on a grill grate now after reading the horror stories of bristles left behind. I would recommend just scraping the build up off and scrubbing with a ball of aluminum foil to clean it.

I lightly brush the cast iron with the cheap grill brushes. It doesn't take off the seasoning. Never had a stray bristle stick to the grate.Cooking on an XL and Medium in Bethesda, MD.

I was recommended a brass brush a while ago and has not scraped my coating and works much better than a SS brush on cast iron.XLBGE, MMBGE, CyberQ

You can use an onion. Cut in half and use a fork as a handle then scrape all the crap off that way. Or use "The Ringer." Then hit it up with some vegetable/olive oil or crisco to keep it from rusting.

ditto. It isn't too hard to inspect to ensure no bristles got left behind. -
I don't use anything.
