Is it just me, but I have ordered from SRM three times.   The latestest was baby back ribs ( which i got as a Christmas present} .   Is the price worth the small protions?   I am thinking I could do better elesewhere.

Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

I assume you are referring to SRF. I am sure you can get for cheaper but you are paying for quality meat from a company who stands behind it. I personally have not ordered from there but I can understand the appeal. Forgive me if I am misunderstanding the question

@bucky925 - going with SRF here, I cannot comment on any of their products besides the wagyu black brisket and their steaks.  I have always thought that their products were definitely worth the $$ and more importantly the wow factor.  Just did a SRF black brisket last night for a carnivore headed back over-seas.  Perfect finish to a visit where "all I want is beef" was the incoming request.  Tossed a big SRF steak in the mix during the visit as well.
Their customer service is top-notch as are the products I have received.
I totally endorse their products but my cross-section is limited.
Disclaimer-I have no connection with SRF.

Since you mentioned pork, what they offer is Berkshire/kurobuta pork. I have always found it to be on the smaller side compared to similar cuts of commodity pork. That said, the flavor of Berkshire blows commodity pork away.
  • The commercial beef and pork markets are about quantity, not quality.

Typically, anything more flavorful is going to cost more. Grass fed, slower growing breeds etc

if they are not part of the feedlot system, price goes up

but so (it's someqhat generally agreed) does quality

shipping is the killer. Try finding a supplier near you and that can mitigate things

I think SRF is fantastic.  and while I focus on ordering mostly briskets from them, I think they actually emphasize that their pork ribs are not are very large before you order them.

Agree with @Darby_Crenshaw look for a local farmer. You may find good quality product at a more affordable price point.

Double agree. Maybe I'm lucky, but I've found a number of sources for some exceptional meats within 50 miles. The beef has not been quite Wagyu quality, but the Berkshire pork was like butter.

Shipping costs for meat can be significant. I've had a few purchases where the weight of the cold pack was greater than the meat. Or the shippers will require next day air shipment for the warm half of the year.  So I don't mind paying for some gas and spending a little time driving to the neighboring counties.

i like to buy meat locally as well, so I am not trying to sound like a SNR fanboy.....but dont they basically ship for a flat fee of like $9.50 or something?

I haven't dealt w. them, but I wonder if the flat fee is per pound, not per shipment. That is closer to what I've experienced from other outfits.

Yeah my shipping from SRF has always been under 10.00 so shipping is not the issue with them for me. Go to a high end stake house that serves wagu beef....lol 100.00 or more for a plate. They are a high end farm. You pay for that. Go out a hunt wild hogs...there you have it...cheap. Come to think about it they are pretty damn tasty too.

its kind of like when I go salmon fishing in Lake Michigan. If fishing is bad then you hate to see what you paid per pound. Now last time we dought over 100lbs in meat. Now that paid for itself, but it is just plain fun.

turkey tags here are 28.00. Crap I can buy a turkey cheaper then that in the store, but again....what fun is that?

At a flat rate shipping price of $9.50 you are still paying for it in the price of your product by paying a higher price per pound.
