Just got done watching this doc and WOW, very well done.
I'm not going to give anything away but I'm so torn it makes me bang my head off the wall!
Maybe I was off from work too long and had to fill the stress gap with this series?
It worked.

Great show. Of course I was off work for a while when I watched it too. The only person who really knows for sure is Stephen Avery. It sure as hell would be terrible if he's not.
I would be curious to hear from people who are from the Manitowac area to get their opinion.

If you liked this and haven't already; listen to the first season of the Serial podcast. Binge worthy too. It was good to listen to while the egg was heating up and doing some prep work.

I worked in Manitowoc (live 40 miles from there) when this occurred. I actually worked with one of his cousins. In talking with him, it certainly appears that he did it. Teresa's body was cut up and placed in Averys burn barrel...ask the Halbach's what they think ...

    https://wcca.wicourts.gov/courtRecordEvents.do;jsessionid=CAA1BF7622E3DB23E3A7F365C26C0F98.render6?caseNo=2005CF000381&countyNo=36&cacheId=C4CE01BA6E54E352887FE0ABF014A8A0&recordCount=16&offset=6&linkOnlyToForm=false&sortDirection=DESC

Also these are from the circuit court

"Sentencing hearing continued. Court states he has read the attachments attached to the presentence investigation report. State will be presenting five individuals for victim/impact statements. 1) Maria Halbach, makes a statement to the court. 2) Kari Lau, Teresa's cousin, makes a statement to the court. 3) Rhonda Behnke, Teresa's cousin, makes a statement to the court. 4) Mike Halbach, Teresa's brother, makes a statement to the court. 5) Tim Halbach, Teresa's brother, makes a statement to the court. State presents a video made by Teresa Halbach. Court informs all parties that this is a court of law and that any outbursts will result in removal from the courtroom and possible arrest. Court wishes to express his apologies to the Halbach family and how they have handled themselves with dignity and respect. Court states this case is unique, this is the longest criminal trial in history of this county and has received a huge amount of media coverage. State is asking for the life sentence without parole; defense is asking for the court to leave the door open and the presentence investigation report recommends life without parole. Court believes the circumstantial evidence was more than overwhelming to convict the defendant of this offense. The defendant has readily been involved in criminal activity when not incarcerated. Court believes this defendant to be the most dangerous criminal to step foot into this courtroom. What he sees is that society will never be safe from his behavior. Society has a right to be concerned that he will re-offend. Court concludes the defendant should not be free again. On PTC 1st degree intentional homicide the defendant is sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility for extended supervision".

Excellent doc series. Got to be the worst PR snafu in Wisconsin history.  I wouldn't drive thru that state if my life depended on it...certainly not with the serious questions raised about whether an unparalleled system of corruption has thoroughly pervaded justice in the cheese state. At the very least, the case stinks to high heaven...I mean fetid and fecal. No one disputes Teresa Haibach met with foul play at the hands of one or more sick SOBs, but that's not the point. The scariest part relates to overwhelming evidence of a clear and convincing modus operandi of Manitowoc County SO detectives, which is to silence, at any cost, anyone who dares to catch law enforcement stepping in its mess kit. I highly recommend the documentary series which, for a change, offers a glimmer of hope for investigative journalism in this country that, up till now, seemed to be on life support.

I remember when this happened. Although there is plenty of prosecutorial misconduct, IMO the case against Avery is a slam dunk and didn't need the help. This is the guy. The fact that Halbach has some seedy relatives is not relevant.

If the murder case against Steven Avery were indeed a slam dunk and NOT a frame-up laced with planted police evidence, why, after the documentary hit Netflix last month, have almost 300,000 people worldwide signed petitions on change.org demanding a presidential pardon for him?  The producers of Making a Murderer did an outstanding job of laying out all the facts so the viewer can decide in his or her own mind as to Avery’s guilt or innocence. Watch the complete series…a 10 parter. I mean, how many 10 part investigative reports have you ever seen a network devote to any one subject? Making a Murderer is an extraordinary and highly provocative documentary.

BTW, the series delved into virtually every issue raised in the link above regarding so called "omitted" evidence.  So. in my opinion anyway, the link, which agrees evidence was planted and that the Avery prosecution was rife with official misconduct, offers nothing to advance the debate.

Well, will wonders ever cease. Check out latest from Avery's legal team, claiming in a new court filing 2 of Avery's brothers may have committed the Halbach murder: http://www.tmz.com/2016/01/06/steven-avery-brothers-murder-teresa-halbach/

I finally had a chance to watch the final episode. My wife and I made a rule that we can only watch one episode a day of any Netflix show. So we watched it every night for 6-7 days in a row and been swamped the past few weeks to finish it up. So tonight was the big finale. I've been dodging any current articles about the case. Damn. Still don't know what to think and what to believe. It's hard to wrap my brain around it. Especially some of the evidence that the documentary left out that would throw shade at Avery. Crazy stuff!
