Completely OT -- Smokey Joe Mini WSM

Don't yell at me.  LOL. I am the very proud owner of both a Large BGE and a Mini BGE.  There is no replacing those.   They are like children to me.   =)  But I also have a little weber Smokey Joe wasting away in my shed.  Was thinking about turning into a novelty tailgating smoker since it's just sitting there.  Prolly paint it and throw a gamecock logo on there with high temp paint.  Anyone ever make one of these?  If so, what are your thoughts?  Also, what is your experience on fuel efficiency?  TIA!

I know an artist that might be of assistance.

My son left my Smoky Joe at a friends house....never to be seen again.

I got one when my large's dome had a Humpty Dumpty incident a few years ago.  $29.  It got me through the couple of weeks without an egg.  Lol.  Been sitting in the shed every since.  The mini smoker project looks pretty neat.

@Dyal_SC - I made one of these a few years ago. its a nifty little smoker to take on the road. You can grill on the Smokey Joe, and smoke whole chickens, pork butts, etc with the tamale pot smoker mod. Check bbq brethren for tons of build threads.

I found the IMUSA brand tamale pot at Wal-Mart. They are not all the same dimensions, so grab the pot and walk over to the outdoors sections and check the dry-fit on a Smokey Joe display. A few nuts, bolts, grids, and a thermometer will make a smoker out of it. I recommend drilling a bunch of holes in the bottom instead of cutting it out - that way you can store some items in the pot when not in use.

Its easy to reload with lump if you're doing a long cook. They are pretty fun to cook with!

If you watch CL I have seen people selling the mini weber smokey mountain for under $100. It's basically the same thing but all powder coated etc.

I used to use my Weber Smokey Joe weekly during the summer/fall for tailgating. I'd still be using it if the lid didn't fly out of my truck bed on the way home from tailgating. You might just use it the way it is for tailgating, camping, traveling, etc. I use it almost exclusively over my mini and small when tailgating weekly. Easy to use, easy to move, and clean up is a breeze. I would have bought another Smokey Joe but went with the bigger Weber Jumbo Joe. Great little grill
