Does anyone use the ThermoWorks - BlueTherm Duo?

I am assuming the temperature accuracy is spot on given the reputation of the ThermaPen.  I am really just wondering about the BlueTooth connectivity.  I hear horror stories about some other brands (Maverick, etc).

    I got the new ThermoWorks catalog with my IR thermometer yesterday, and noticed that new "BlueTherm", would've probably purchased it instead of the other brand I just got to replace my Maverick.
    But, if the review EggDaddy posted is accurate, maybe not (I always like to see a dozen or so reviews before putting much weight on them).

    I have one, very happy with it. I was having problems with it dropping off on BlueTooth, I have an iPhone and iPad, I returned it to ThermoWorks for them to checkout and after extensive testing and a few e-mails and phone calls (they have exceptional customer service) they returned the unit to me along with a calibration certification and recap of all testing done, no problems found. I found that if I simply turn off Wi-Fi on either my iPhone or iPad when I connect it never drops, never falters, it is spot on accurate and built extremely well. It's easy to use, I generally put the iPad on the counter in the kitchen to monitor, very convenient, would recommend if you are looking for top quality unit.

    Thanks Scott.  I will be getting this and only use it with my iPhone.

    I've had one for nearly a year that I use with my iPad, and have never hooked it up to my iPhone. Its worked perfectly for me, never lost connection. I am not very  far from my grill, as I have a small house,  but I know my other bluetooth devices would lose connection if they were that far away.

    @Big_Green_Craig and @Cashfan

    I got an email this morning about a sale at Thermoworks and plan to buy one of these as well.

    Which probes did you purchase?

    Thanks

    SMOKE HOUSE PENETRATION PROBE - STAINLESS OVERBRAID

    Model: 113-177

    CROCODILE CLIP OVEN PROBE Model: 113-041

    These are the two I have, both are type K. I recently replaced the penetration probe after just over a year of use. I considered the heavy duty version but I had read about not being able to get a good seal around the lid because of its thicker size, so I went with the regular size. It probably would last a lot longer, but I am hard on stuff and abused it.

    When you add it to your cart it will prompt you to add probes and take you to the correct ones.

    I bought the kit.  So whatever comes with that.  The crocodile clip and the Smokehouse Penetrator.  They are currently on back-order.  Boo!  It will be a few weeks.

  • I received the BlueTherm Duo as a Christmas gift from my wife and kids.  The build quality and accuracy is fantastic.  I have an Android based Samsung Galaxy 6 Edge that I first started using the BlueTherm to cook Christmas Day beef tenderloin.  It worked OK but the connection would cut out every 5 min or so.  I have an old iPhone 5 I use for music so I connected the BlueTherm to that and that has worked much better.  The distance from the BlueTherm unit to my iPhone inside the house is 23ft.  In the photo below you can actually see the BGE out on the sunken patio.  I took this shot last evening while cooking a 21lbs. turkey on the BGE.  Thanksgiving #1/2016.  If you zoom in the iPhone you can see the Turkey temp is on the top and the Pit temp is on the bottom.  I did get the kit.
