Automatic update here this morning and now my mail is hung up - says it is Upgrading Library for last 90 minutes - totally unresponsive! Tried to reboot clean and dirty - no avail. Anybody have a phone number to call since I can't email?

@RRP - Hi Ron-not sure which Apple update is causing your issues (I upgraded to El Capitan last month) but here's apple care # 1 800-275-2273.  Hope they can help.

My dad had issue with his.  Doesn't sound like the same one you are having but he turned the setting off that sent the mail through the icloud and that helped.

Update - been on the phone for an hour and fellow trouble shooting this and that and finally referred to his boss for help but his boss's ideas didn't resolve either. Final solution was to un-install the update and reinstall it. Been called back after 30 min and still not finished installing yet...Apple Care to call me again in 40 minutes.

FURTHER UPDATE: Reinstall did not solve the issue! 2 hours later...log jam broken after 3 helpful, pleasant ENGLISH speaking folks in Atlanta - not India - tried with 2 of them even asking their bosses for help and then finally handed over to a Senior Advisor.

The upgrade was OS X EL Capitan 10.11.2
  • But Ron, I thought you loved your effeminate Apple?

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your Mac. Computer problems are always a PITA.

I'm running 10.11.2 and though I never (well, almost never) use Apple Mail I thought I would see if it worked on mine. It did. So...like most of these things there is some unique "blend" of system files on your Mac that seems to be causing the problem.

When you were talking to Apple did they have you boot up in "Safe Mode" to see if Mail still had problems (I believe the Mail app still runs under Safe Mode)?

If you are running Time Machine you could just go back and select a backup before you even upgraded to El Capitan and just go back to Yosemite.

Also, I hope you have more than just the one email account with Apple. It's always good to have accounts with multiple vendors just in case problems arise with an account with one service.

Also, also, it seems like your problem is just with your Mac and not an issue with the Apple email service itself. You can also use Apple Mail via a browser. You don't have to use the Apple Mail app on a Mac. Here's some info in case you have never done that before: https://support.apple.com/kb/PH2618?locale=en_US

Via your browser you can still use your email until such a time as the problems with your Mac/Mail app get resolved.

Anyway, hope it gets sorted out sooner rather than later.
