Custom Cutting Board

I was thinking of getting a cutting board the size of my stove top. It is a glass smooth top and I hate setting stuff on it. If I got a board the size of it I could leave it there 90% of the time. It would add more work space.
Anybody know or recommend woodworkers who might do something like that?

I would buy a maple butcher block top that's slightly bigger (it is a commodity material) and cut it or get someone to cut it to size. Way way cheaper than a custom top. Look at grizzly.com

Based on a quick extrapolation of my 18 x 24 inch board, one that size would weight about 26 pounds for a two inch board. Not extremely heavy, but not light weight either. Plus a mistake with a turned on burner would not be pretty.

This guy will make you whatever you want and makes some really nice stuff. It's like a 3-4 month wait usually though. Here's a pic of one he made me. https://www.etsy.com/shop/GreenRiverWoods?ref=s2-header-shopname

if interested email him and see what he can do. He is crazy cheap for his quality. I own a board and will be buying few more as giftsBoom -
Many years some friends redid their kitchen with nice butcher block counter tops. They had the contractor cut a length of the counter top to set on the stove.
After a year or so they just got tired of having to move such a big block of wood and find some place to store it every day that they quit using it.
His wife was a weaver so she made a piece that would cover the top and attached it to a stiffer canvas-y backing. Looks real nice. They obviously don't do messy food prep on it but it does add an area where they can set stuff like bowls, pots, ingredients, etc. and not be concerned about scratching up the stovetop.
Amazon has a vendor that sells something similar: http://www.amazon.com/Yellow-Rooster-Glass-Stove-Protector/dp/B011DKXV6A/ref=sr_1_83?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1449846057&sr=1-83&keywords=stove+top+burner+covers
I also see this poly top which is a lot lighter than a big ole hunk of wood: http://www.amazon.com/More-Counter-Space-White/dp/B004V5ARE4/ref=sr_1_48?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1449845935&sr=1-48&keywords=stove+top+burner+covers“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Beautiful. I'm going to this dude's farm in a few weeks who has exotic wood, some of which I've never heard of. Hope to do some cutting boards.

My buddy Randy (Gumbo guy that rammed my truck last brisket fest) had a cutting board business. He also made KCBS trophies. Did this for years. He said he'd show me some of his techniques for end-grain boards. I've never made one. My shop has everything I need, just haven't done those.

Great ideas guys, thanks. Those boards are gorgeous. I would almost hate to use something that pretty.
@HeavyG That is a concern of mine. I will have to think about the thickness I want. I do have a storage spor near by.
@Nolaegghead good idea on a commodity block. Also, if you want to practice making an end grain, I will give you the dimensions. I won't even charge you for themMaybe your purpose in life is only to serve as an example for others? - LPL

This guy makes custom boards. I'm sure he'd make you something in any size/thickness you want.
