This is too timely! I'm sitting in the waiting room - gonna have my first in a just a bit!Lovin' my Large Egg since May 2012 (Richmond, VA) ... and makin' cookbooks at https://FamilyCookbookProject.com

I've had 2 so far. The prep is the worst part, but manageable if you don't stray too far from a toilet. Get it done early so you can sleep without worrying about spackling the bed. The actual procedure is a really good nap. In recovery, you'll be farting out all that gas they pump into you.
And I always have a good take-out meal planned to pick up on the way home.

Sitting at home recovering from a Colectomy now. I'm 46 with no family history (that I know of) and was diagnosed with colon cancer two weeks ago. Surgery appears to have got all of it. Get checked.
@tarheelmatt - I am going to bust a stitch laughing at your posts. Good stuff!

Thanks for the kind words guys. This is a good opportunity to spend some quality time with my egg ( and my wife!). Should be up to doing a butt next week. Pun intended.

It's no big deal with sedation. The prep session the day before does require that you stay close to a toilet.Richmond and Mathews County, VA. Large BGE, Weber gas, little Weber charcoal. Vintage ManGrates. Little reddish portable kamado that shall remain nameless here. Very Extremely Stable Genius.
