OT: .22 Rifle Suggestions

Standard velocity .22 LR is already subsonic. Don't pay extra for the stuff labeled as "subsonic". CCI Standard .22 LR is 1070 fps which is subsonic.stlcharcoal said:The downside is the ammo as all of those subs, shorts, or CB's, are always more expensive and harder to fine than regular .22LR.
For the OP, I'd agree with many above and say go with a Ruger 10/22 and try to find an older one. Go for stainless if you think it might miss a couple of cleanings and could be prone to rust.
I love my Savage Mark II FVSR. I did change the stock (original was junk), added a cheap scope on it, and added a suppressor to it (it came threaded). It's a bolt action so when suppressed, all you can hear from this gun is the firing pin and the target being hit. I can head shoot squirrels at 125 yards all day long with CCI Standard. I have around $500 in the gun (excluding the suppressor).

Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear you are thinking of safety. It's when we forget to think about safety that dangerous things are more likely to happen.Hi54putty said:
I appreciate the scolding. I own handguns and completely agree with your assessment. I should have said that I will do required maintenance but won't be swapping out parts and tricking anything out. I probably won't strip and clean after every use and it may sit around for months at a time. I will do the minimum maintenance to maintain a safe firearm. Having said that, I don't disagree with anything you wrote. I don't have much experience with rifle safety but will certainly learn. I imagine it is mostly common sense, which luckily I have a lot of.Zmokin said:
This statement scares the H out of me. If you don't intend to take good care of a firearm, IMO, you shouldn't bother owning one. Responsible gun ownership starts with taking proper care of the item. If you have a lackadaisical attitude towards the care of the gun, I'm afraid of you having a lackadaisical attitude towards firearm safety as well. It's not a toy. It's a tool and a weapon. Please treat it as such if you do decide to buy one.Hi54putty said:I may or may not take good care of it.
