Pump, synthetic stock

Don't know anything about shotguns...or guns for that matter.  This a decent shotgun?

    @cazzy,
A solid, entry level, pump shotgun.  The 870 is a classic.
With the recent CC thread, thought I would post it up.  Definitely a nice option for home defense, and a nice price.  Shotgun shells and clays, are affordable, and fun to shoot.

Niiiice.  May have to pick it up.  Pretty much spot on what the use would be...home defense and maybe some clay shooting down the line.

I love clay shooting. Might have to invest.

We have fun.  Singles, one throws, one shoots.  Nothing fancy.

If you're using a hand thrower, duct tape a broom handle to it. You can throw those clays a country mile.

An 870 should be everyones first shotgun.

After an 870 is in the stable then move on to other shotguns.

Meh. I've had a couple of Remington shotguns that were recalled and I had a Remington .17 auto blow up in my face. I'll never pull the trigger on a Remington again. They aren't as good as they used to be.

Man, that blows.  Saw a documentary on the 700 cover up.  My XDs was recalled, Springer handled it, shot fine.
Nothing is as good as it used to be.

Not discounting your experience, but careful on comparing your experience with a .17 auto to a whole line.  .17 autos have been pretty much discontinued by all manufactures.  They require so much maintence to shoot safely.

I have a 10/22 converted to .17 mach2.  Relined barrel, volquartsen weightes bolt, new springs, fully worked trigger assembly.  Pretty much need to clean every 20 rounds or so.

I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Two recalls and an action blowing up in my face plus the 700 issues... Yeah it's a brand issue. I bought a Super Black Eagle and never looked back.

Yeah, the 700 fiasco is really bad.  That really was dark days for remmington.

I'm a Winchester and Ruger guy for my long guns, but Remmington did do the 870 right.

I've got a Browning A Bolt .300 that shoots like a dream. Beretta and Benelli when it comes to shotguns. Buying quality only stings once...

I would love a Benelli.  They make fantastic guns.  Never shot a Berretta aside from a 93fs.

I know two guys with 700's that had the thing go off when they flipped the safety off.  One was in a tree stand, another on a bench......luckily both had the barrel in a safe direction.

    870 a classic?   I Guess So.
Family had a couple of 'em nearly 50 years ago.   One fitted with a short stock which was for my mother and I later used it to great effect bagging my First Pheasant with it.

I love my 40 y.o. Remington 1100. I guess it's the ancestor of the new 1187. My dad gave it to me when I was 14.

I have two 870s. One stays in the truck, one in the closet. Great dependable gun.
