After seeing my neighbors in action I peronally would not buy. The distance is lacking. his smoker is right next to his garage and the BT wont carry 30 feet thru a plywood wall.

Which model does he have? I have the one in the link and it goes through a wall or 2 and 30-40' easily. Never tested how far it will go but that's all I really need. I just went and turned it on next to my garage door and went inside in the back corner and it's working at least 40' away through at least 3 walls. I even put it on the ground behind our kitchen island and no issue.

I have one and love the multiple sensors capability.. I bought a air temp sensor to monitor "real" temp at the grate and still have 3 sensors working for (turkey) breast, thigh and stuffing duty. The range is not like a wifi or cordless phone range but it is enough to stay indoors and check it. You will always find limitations and wish something had better this or that.. But for the price, I'm monitoring my "low and slow" while sitting having a beer! And by the way, the app has graphs to visually see how temps rise or fall. The handiest feature is that you can set multiple alarms for too low (fire out) or too high (meat on fire!) so... Just get one and have fun with it...
My opinions tend to be unbiased and sometimes spicy..

I bought one was hoping it worked out but loses connection to much in the house. 50 plus feet in my house and it won't loses connection. I will say I got a 150 feet easy just being outside.
I ordered a tappeque. Seeing some of its being paid for as a Christmas gift. I'm not shelling out the full cost.

I just tested mine walking around the house. Grills are set up out front and I made it to the back corner which is probably 50' or so through 2 outside walls and the kitchen and I lost connection there but as soon as I passed the kitchen I got connection back. Also lost connection behind the fireplace. Looks like the above poster is right you get about 50' through a wall or 2.
