First Butt

Just wanted to introduce myself to everybody. I've had my egg for 2 years and done a many a beef tenderloin, steaks, spatchcock chickens galore, and too many skirt steaks for fajitas to count. This past Friday night I cooked my first butt on the EGG. I followed various posts for a couple days and put together all the information you guys provided(thank you by the way). I put a good amount of mustard on an 8 lb butt and rubbed it down really well Thursday night, threw her on indirect at 225' for 12 hours starting at 7pm and took her off at 7am at a nice 201' and FTC'd it for 8 hours pulling at 3pm. While pulling I could not get my 3.5 year old daughter to stop eating what I was pulling or my 2 year old son. My wife loved it which is always a plus. So thank you all fellow edgers for helping me cook a great meal for my family. Looking forward to many more butts.

Thanks, I was like a hawk throughout the night unfortunately. I hit the stall at 12:15am and it didn't budge until 4:30am. After reading what other eggers do though I just rode it through and trusted what others had posted. Sorry there is no "money shot" didn't have time as it was Halloween and focus became elsewhere.

@wocotiger7 Welcome aboard. Looks perfect.
If you don't mind me asking, how the heck have you been egging for 2 years and this is the first butt?

Welcome aboard and continue to enjoy the journey. Reads like you are just now venturing into the world of the low&slow side of the BGE. A whole lot of cooking opportunities are now open and you will have fun with those cooks.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

I have done a few ribs and loved them but the wife isn't fond of ribs in general so I stick to the things that make her happy, crazy I know

When time doesn't permit a low and slow, try a "Turbo Butt"!! Great results in 1/2 the time!! Welcome and have fun!!

I have no wife, but I do have a daughter - she doesn't care for ribs either.
On the occasion she isn't home, it's automatically RIB NIGHT.Phoenix
