CyberQ and infra mode

I have read and read and cannot seem to find out how to connect my CyberQ to my shop network. I see where the unit itself has some wifi settings but I would figure it would pick up off my router in shop using DHCP. I have been playing with it for a couple hours and must not be hitting the right buttons. I am not network illiterate but starting to feel that way.

I have a simple Netgear wireless router WRN 2000 and a brand new CyberQ. Can someone point me in the right direction to get some tips on this?

If your router is secured with password (13 digits?) and it should be.  :-). you need to enter that after you FIRST put the cyberq into setup mode and select your network.  THEN powercycle cyberq and watch display to see the ip that gets assigned.  Then type that ip into your browser and then ur off to races..

I think you hold down the up and down buttons on boot to enter setup  then when that comes up use down to get to "scan" so you can pick ur network,  then you screw up like i did several times deciding how to get to where u then enter password via manipulating up/down buttons and right arrow to select as you scroll thru  a-z,A-Z,1-9 

its a pain and u need to google the manual or use sheet that came with it to know how to traverse the setup options and how to exit/backup without screwing up ur password..  Hurts not having a keyboard during setup when u have a long password, deep menus and only 4 buttons.   You can do it.   I think they'll help you with that if you call em. Else I can this weekend via phone.   ( i'll reset mine and do it with you.)

1. Plug unit in.

2. Press and hold down the UP and DOWN arrows together to enter SETUP mode.

3. When >SYTEM SETUP is displayed, push the RIGHT arrow.

4. Scroll down to >SCAN WIFI and push RIGHT arrow.

5. Scroll to your Wifi Network and then press the CENTER button.

6. Press the LEFT arrow to go back.

7. Scroll down until you see SSID: (Your Network Name should be selected)

8. Scroll down to KEY: then push the CENTER button.

9. Enter your Wifi Network password using the directional arrows.

10. Press the CENTER button to save the password.

11. Unplug the unit and plug it back in.

12. The unit should now connect to your network and will display the CyberQ’s Network IP Address wait/watch for it

Yep, I got to that point but when doing the port forwarding method I haven't gotten it to work yet.

Do you have a static or dynamic IP from your service provider. Mine changes every now and then. I have to log into my router to see if the router IP changed on me. I then input my router IP into my web browser. Then it will forward me to my CyberQ Wifi interface. I do not use the CyberQ Wifi's IP address to connect remotely.

I ran a whatismyip.com and it gave me the same ip address several times last night. I will do it again today and see if it yields the same address. I did create a route that has the cyberq at port 80 and tried to log in from an external network but it wouldn't go through. I'm going to call my provider and ask if I have a static address.

Of course your internet provider may be different but in my experience your external IP address does not change all that often. Mine will stay the same for weeks at a time. I've never noticed it to change on a daily basis.

How many routers do you have? Do you have one from your provider and the Netgear WRN 200 or do you just have the Netgear WRN 2000 with just the ISP modem? I use the external IP from my provider on m Fios router.

THIS was my issue ... I had a combo  Comcast modem/router   that my netgear was plugged into.    I had to set the Comcast unit to bridged mode  to get port fwd'ing to work   BUT THEN performance went to %#$%  so I went back.  If I get desperate to see my cooks  away from wifi,  I will give the son-in law my cyberQ  & go get a flameboss 200  that  displays  the cook from their webserver.   I hate port fwding.    I didn't get that was your issue  late last PM sorry.

I do have two routers. Coming into my house I have a cable modem then it is plugged into my house wireless router. Out of that router I have an ethernet cable running 100' to my external garage. The cable is plugged into another wireless router and that is where my CyberQ is wirelessly connected to. I am thinking I will have to forward a port from the house router to the shop router in order to talk to the CyberQ?

Make sure that your CyberQ is set to the correct encryption key type if you are using infrastructure mode. I spent hours trying to figure out why I could not enable port forwarding until I discovered that I had to set my settings to WPA-Personal on my CyberQ and my router. This link may help:

You should port forward from the router that you are connecting your CyberQ to. Do you really need two routers? I have an Apple AIrport Extreme in my office and it has quite a range so I do not require a 2nd router, I also have a Comcast modem, not the combo unit. When I had the combo unit my wifi performance was very slow.

Two routers are a necessity, it is too far from my house to the shop for wifi only.

got it figured out, basically set my second router in access point mode. Set a static IP on the CyberQ and ported from my house router to it. Works like a charm
