@Dredger - We have a tuxedo.  Cleo.  She's sweet, shy and doesn't like to be in the house since the "monster kitten" arrived.  They need time to adjust.  Also we have a British Blue named Graycie.   All our cats are rescues, except the Bengal - we bought from someone who bought from a breeder and couldn't handle him - he was destroying their trailer and they were not experienced with cats.  We have scratching pads and cat toys couches and fragile things on ledges as an outlet.  He's a handful even for us but nothing destroyed that we care about.

Why do you have to give your cat an IV so often?

My guess would be renal failure.  The IV fluid are to help keep the kitty's kidneys functioning and well as possible and keeps em hydrated. We had to do the same on a Snowshoe we had for many years.

We now have 3 cats.  We had to euthanize our beautiful Boodle in April due to a rare cancer.  She was 10 and her passing left our Ruli (also 10) the only cat.  We wanted to adopt some kittens and so acquired Brickle (a dilute Torti) and Fig (sort of Tuxedo, and short for Figuroa, a local mountain).  Turned out that Ruli was very happy to be the only cat, so the kittens continue to spend most of their days in their sanctuary room (my office) and come out into the main house for supervised visits.  The catfrontations are becoming less hissy, so hopefully it won't be too long before there is a truce.

Ruli is a pretty average sized cat - maybe 8 - 10 lbs.  We think Brickle is going to be a petite cat (our last tortie was also) while Fig is shaping up to be a real big boy.

He has CKD, chronic kidney disease. Very common for cats. Unfortunately the disease is discovered only when the roughly 2/3 of the kidney functions are gone. He can not concentrate his urine to remove toxins. The more fluids he gets the more toxins he can filter out. Over the course of a week, I give him an additional 16oz of fluids.

Hi Mikee - we had a cat with undersized kidneys and a hyperactive thyroid. It was a constant balance to keep the thyroid low enough that she didn't waste away, but high enough to drive her kidneys.  She got sub-q Ringers every day for about 5 years.  She lived to 23 - Bungle the Wondercat.

Crazy Cat People. From 1 o'clock going clockwise, Bimini (Hemingway Cat), Havana (Hemingway Cat), Monster, and Lucy Fur. Nothing like a laser toy to bring the cats together.
