2015 American Royal BBQ Championship/Meatchurch

Yesterday I was at the American Royal BBQ Championship hanging out with the BBQ team I helped out today and noticed a BGE tent.  My friend says that is @Meatchurch.  I went over and meet Matt with Meatchurch.  He was was nice meeting him putting a face and voice to a forum member.  He had just finished putting in his food for the invitational and was hanging out waiting for the judges results.  Today I helped Porkiritaville Competition BBQ compete in the open contest.  They submitted  food in chicken, pork ribs, pork and brisket.  All of it good to me but we didn't get any calls, but placed 310 out of 618.  I didn't get a lot of photos of the food in my phone, because I was using there camera to take photos.  This year it was held at Arrowhead Stadium.  Grills Gone Wild took Grand Champion.  It was cold, but fun.

With being at Arrowhead you park closer and shuttles aaren't really needed.  They had a midway with a ferries wheel, games food trucks and concert stage.  Bif and  Rich played last night.  They had a vendor area on the east side and contestants where on both sides of the stadium.   I would say it was a hit to me.  I worked at Arrowhead for over 20 years so I knew my way around.  They did have a map of the spots and that helped a lot.  618 contestants is a lot of people.   It was impressive the amount of money people spend on RV's then had people sleeping out in tents.   I think it will continue here for a while.

Local guy down here, Uncle Kenny's BBQ, reported he finished 30th.  Great guy, great rubs and sauce.

WOW!  That's a great finish.  It was Porkaritaville's first time competing at the Royal.  It was quite the experience.  It really smelled good out there, but I am kind of tired of BBQ right now.

No, he uses mostly a Jambo Pit smoker that is attached to the back of his trailer.  He did have a large egg in wheeled cart.  I think he just cooks his chicken on the egg and the rest on the Jambo.  That is just a guess.  When I was talking to him on the last day they were busy cleaning and packing to leave so he didn't have much time to talk.  Not sure where they finished though.  They were all nice, so was everyone else there and having a great time.  It is a big three day party with two BBQ contest wrapped in with it.
