Reverse sear

I wanted to reverse sear a couple of filet mignons today. I was able to accomplish said technique but I ran into a problem. I gave up on removing my grate in order to remove the plate setter because my mitts were to thick to get a grip on the grate. I ended up searing them on the fire that came up around the plate setter. Is there a tool available to remove a hot cast iron grate?
