I got a call yesterday AM that one of my best friends from Michigan was in town. Needless to say they coordinated dinner to be at my house tonight. Plans went into action, ideas popped into my head, phone calls and text messages went out to a fellow egghead and the plan was set. Thanks @NPHuskerFL ! A late night run to the store produced 5 whole chickens. I began the prep last night and they are currently in a brine bath now. Just one problem one the the birds is still as hard as a rock. So I might just go with 4 birds now, if it is not ready by the time I get home today. More to come later today! Guest arrive @7PM and I wont be home from work until about 5PM and I still need to grab more beer.
The rub I am going with is THE RUB COMPANY Santa Maria however I doctor it up a bit by splitting the bottle and adding black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder and a couple of other spices I cant remember at this time but the recipe is at home.

Looks like a good plan Pat. The one icy bird should be okay to run with even if it's not completely defrosted.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

Sound like fun. I take it you have an XL to fit that many birds on at one time. If not quite ready by 7 I will be they will wait while they have a beer or two. Good luck and look forward to the post photos.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo.

Great cook and setting. Only additional comment I would have is that life is too short for light/lite beerLouisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

@lousubcap light beer was for the chickens only coors banquet was flowing. It is our tradition when the four of my buddies get together we drink like we were 21 all over again, not sure why but it always brings back some good memoriesHermosa Beach CA
