I went out at lunch time today with a utility knife. IT was really tough to insert into the gasket, but with just a little persuasion on one side, it popped open. That old gasket is hard as a rock, but still appears to be sealing well. Anyways, here is a pic of the egg post burn. Plate setter, fire box and fire ring are like new, and of course the grate is clean. I did not have a lot of lump when I started this though, and obviously the ceramic in the body and dome did not get hot enough to clean. At the least, I accomplished what I intended, cleaning some of the fish drippings from the PS.

Don't forget to check the egg for cracks.

Go Rutland. Contact @RRP for info & the gasket. He sells them for cost and is a super nice guy! They don't weld your egg together like the other gaskets.Flint, Michigan
