some time ago there was a discussion on brown bag vs red bag royal oak. i can't find it and don't remember what the difference is between the two. sorry to ask to bring it up again but can someone do a refresher on this please? thanks in advance.

The red bag is the only one I have used. I would not hesitate to use it again.

theyolksonyou That's a backhand complement. Yes, my go to lump is RO. I've been using it for roughly 7 years. Like many others, the choice of brands is finite when buying from a brick and motar stores. RO seems to be consistent from bag to bag when purchased from the same lot. From lot to lot there is a bigger difference in the size of the pieces. The last bag I used had less then a cup of unusable lump and the second bag I bought seem to be on course with the first. That's unheard of. Perhaps I just got a good batch or RO has increased their quality. Rockwood is comparable. I've only bought 1 bag and it was twice the price of Royal Oak. The Rockwood lump burned very quickly versus Royal Oak. Needless to say another Rockwood purchase is not on my horizon. I bit the bullet on the first purchase so that I could have a personal opinion of it. I've used Cowboy and Frontier lump as well. Both had too many small pieces.
