OT - Wanting to buy a vacuum sealer - looking for advice

Foodsaver, I portion out cryovac packs of tri-tip, and cut my own ribeyes from full roasts, seal them all separate or by twos and freeze, never thawed a bad one yet. Mine is a v3440

I also have those canisters and I use them for storing various rices, but I never vacuum them down as that would be a PITA. What I have noticed over the years that Food Saver would change model numbers about as often as people change their shorts! Only thing between one model and another would actually be what accessories that came with the same vacuum unit! That's exactly why I selected mine over the plain jane one sitting next to it for the same price as mine as it was on sale!SmokeyPitt said:

When I purchased my Gamesaver Silver, it was 1 cent cheaper if I bought the package with vacuum bags, case and marinater than without. Kind of a "duh" deal.A poor widows son.

I also have a Foodsaver 3xxx series with the accessory hose. Love the thing. I use the vacuum canister for my whole bean coffee and the marinating tray all the time.
You can partially freeze your wetter meats beforehand to cut down on the liquid. You can also roll up a paper towel and put it in the end you seal last.
Edit to add: I buy the bulk rolls at Sam's, they are the best deal I've found. But I do agree with Toxarch, the narrow rolls will really pizz you off sometimes, however they are handy for veggies like green beans and the like. -
I have found using ziplocs and sucking the air out with my mouth works pretty darn good. And with liquids, I can just squeeze until the air is out and seal. Can you explain how cheap from Wally world is an improvement over my technique? I've seen people use foodsavers to vacuum pack clothes to make them take up less space, but I can sit on clothes in ziploc and achieve the same effect, and I can re-pack in the wilderness with this method. I've always wondered if I should buy a vacuum sealer, and I'm always wondering if it might be worth it for a inexpensive model.Vegas Eggus said:Have your exact situation. I have the FoodSaver V3240, got it on Amazon for $85, it is a little slow but it paid for itself in the first few weeks.
