Electric Burner / Hot Plate

Options
Anyone have an electric burner they recommend? I want to be able to have something by my egg that I can melt butter, make a sauce, etc. for when i have too much on the grill to do that inside my egg.

I'm about ready to buy an Induction Cooker for the reasons you mention.  I think they're way more flexible than a regular electric burner.  They cost a little more, but you get a lot more for your money.

I have a Nuwave Induction Plate and it works well for such use. Can go from butter melting to searing as long as you use pans with iron in them. I also use it for deep frying outdoors in my Lodge CI Dutch oven. Saves stinking up the house with the hot grease smell.

You could build or buy a rocket stove. :) Not as easy as a hot plate or an induction model, but neither is an egg as easy as a gasser. And you wouldn't need a power cord.

Anything from a nice brick model...

    to a tin can...

to a commercial model in matching green  ...

    And no, I don't have one. :)

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

  • We keep a couple of butane burners - they are great and so easy to use - only about $25-$30 @ Sam's Club and they sell a case of the butane cans and they are in a handy carrying case.  You might want to think about getting one - If you have a table you can store it in there for hand use.  We do use cast iron with them as we use them tailgating most of the time.
