Apparently they aren't insulated enough to pick up a 400° platesetter.

Really stupid move on my part.  I knew they weren't rated that high but thought I could do it if I moved quickly.  WRONG!!
Probably would have gotten off easier if I wasn't holding a grid full of chicken with my right hand.

I've actually did that a couple times when I pulled my temp probe from my meat with my bare hands when it was at temp. Damn the probe was hot.

This is what I use. They are excellent. I have picked up a hot plate setter with these on, and had no problems.

Sadly enough - I have one of these...

Dang, those blisters will smart for awhile!

I use the claw*. Makes it quick and easy to add or remove the plate setter mid-cook.  Especially when holding a grid full of meat with the other hand.

Funny you mention that........my in-laws manufacture all his products.  I guess I need to talk to my brother-in-law about one.

I almost never move hot parts around. I put the cold parts I want into the egg, cook stuff, then eat. On the rare occasion I do need to rearrange, I have a pair of cheap welding gloves I bought back in the 80s when I used a wood stove. Once in a while, I even use them for welding. :) I use a grid lifter if I have to move the grid.

SoCalTim, I've never done that with a meat probe, but I've caught myself reaching for it a few times! They look so innocent, eh? One of these days, I'm sure it'll get me.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!
