Make your own grill extender?

First, I still haven't gotten my egg yet. The table should be ready next week and I'll probably pick it up the next day. But I am getting my plans together including  accessories. I am wondering if any one has made their own grill extender or adjustable rig. Maybe with a smaller grate and long bolts with nuts and washers? In my head I see it working at least. Any body out there that's done it?

Made my own at a great price ($26.15 for grate and parts). Legs were made from 1/2" x 3 1/2" bolts. Each leg assembled as: Bolt / washer / grate / washer / Lock washer / nut then spaced down to the feet nut / tooth Lock washer / nut

i may replace the bolts with 4 1/2" bolts though as the grate sits below the felt line, not sure yet. To save even more money, I may just get some fire bricks to raise the main grid to felt line and use a large aluminum pan as a flame deflector instead of going the platesetter route
