Bluetooth thermometer?

I don't even have my BGE yet, but I'm expecting one soon as a 'surprise' from my wife
I'm already thinking about what accessories I need and one of the first will be a good meat thermometer. A guy at the store was showing me one of those iDevices iGrill meat thermometers that you can remotely monitor from your phone for under $50. I find it hard to believe it can be a good tool for so little money, but the guy was telling me how he uses one and that it's great. So I'm checking here with the hive to get some input. If not that one, who makes a good Bluetooth meat thermometer? I like the Bluetooth idea because I'm a techy and like that kinda stuff. I can certainly be talked out of it, but it would have to be for a really good reason. Thanks in advance!

The Bluetooth range limits scare me.. How deep into your house will you need to monitor? I'm not sure it's the same "type" of Bluetooth as an earpiece and a phone but if you have a BT headset, you might do some range tests...
PS. Fwiw, I sorta went all the way with a wifi temp controller/blower. It's an expensive but rock solid way to assure temp control on long low and slows and it is wifi. There are several out there... Flame boss, cyberQ, Stoker etc. just another option.
There's also the Maverick remote thermos.. Some swear by them, other have quality/reliability issues.
didnt mean to thread drift, just making sure ur aware of options..LBGE, AR. Lives in N.E. ATL -
Thanks for mentioning the wifi options. I'm all for buying once, crying once - so I will consider all the best options.XL BGE Owner Since September 2015 - So expect a lot of newbie questions and please go easy on me :-)

The purist school of thought is to learn temp control for low/slows via manual traditional vent control.. I don't disagree but to dial in "I want 250 degrees" and see it hold rock solid for 6,8,12 hrs plus with no fiddling, well it is a beautiful thing. Keep it filed away as a someday thing anyway.. It lowered my stress level immensely. LolLBGE, AR. Lives in N.E. ATL

+1 on the cyberq. Nothing against the others as I have not worked with them, but that is what I started with and I've had good luck with it...my favorite feature of it is that I was able to configure my router to port forward and now I can monitor my pit from anywhere I can get internet. I have a pork shoulder on now and I just went to the store for an hour...the whole while I can check temps and modify the target put temp if necessary without calling home to have some adjust a vent.
i also agree a lot with the manual method...I used my cyberq a lot in the beginning and now I only get it out for long cooks, or overnight, or times when I know I will be in and out.Making the neighbors jealous in Pleasant Hill, Ia one cook at a time... -
I totally get and respect the purist approach. As a lifelong firearms enthusiast, I've always gotten a chuckle from newbie purchasers/users wanting to equip their firearms with the latest optics & lasers without going out and learning how to properly aim & shoot. unfortunately, I'll probably find myself doing the same with my eggXL BGE Owner Since September 2015 - So expect a lot of newbie questions and please go easy on me :-)

I have the iGrill2 & iGrill mini. I get 90+ feet through my house. I also use the ambient in my dome as a neat way to monitor it. Been very happy

Cool tier1. As an NRA Instructor, I get that. I still don't own an ACOG. :-)
oops I used wife's ipad.. This is swordsmn. -
Glad to hear that midwest.. My BT headset to phone is pitiful on range. Must be a better/newer protocol than my iphone 5s

The iGrill2 is awesome and their customer service is excellent too. I had a bad probe and was sent one right away.XL BGE - Indianapolis, IN

I've had great results with the little iGrill single probe unit. I have two of them. Depending on the cook, I'll use one as a ambient and one in the meat, or go with two different meats.... My egg is off the back porch, so the living room is no problem with coverage. I've got an extra ipad at the house that I can keep in the kitchen for nothing but temp monitoring while doing a long, slow cook. Work great!
