Broken pizza stone

After my chicken parmesan cook last night shut the egg down and didn't think twice about it. Went to fire it up tonight and found this. Should I bother with JB weld or just order a new one from Tom?

personally I would save the pieces to get creative using one for an indirect cook while direct on the other side. I'm just not a fan of JB Weld in the long run when it comes to egg related repairs.

Agreed, that's a nice clean half break. Mine shattered a few weeks ago. Guess it's time for a good one here.

I had one break last year and I used a diamond tooth disk on my 4" grinder to make a couple of smaller pieces that I use on my small egg to creat two cooking zones.

Any road will take you there if you don't know where you're going.

I have the 2-pack of mini sized (8") pizza stones from Amazon. I use them frequently for indirects on the large while cooking direct on the rest of the grid. Your broken stone should give you the same thing. Don't bother with JB Weld. It won't hold it for long anyway.

You may want to consider a piece of 1/4" steel for a pizza "stone". Does a great job and will never break. Steel yard scrap pile will likely be the cheapest (mine was about $12).

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

    So much for cheap.

I've never used mine in the egg, just the oven. Works great there!

What causes them to break? Is it cooling down too quickly?

I can promise you this one wasn't from cooling down too quick. It's a steamy 88 degrees at 10:00 pm around here now. Eventually they all will break. This one lasted five years before breaking and the temperature and humidity swings don't help a piece like that.

It'll still work like that, but buy a new one.  I wouldn't JB weld it and cook food on it.

I agree with @Carolina Q that you try the 1/4" Plate steel.  I got a 1/4" piece of scrap plate steel as an experiment and it made the best pizza crust ever.  I liked it so much I ordered another one and I build a "pizza oven" in the egg.....so, grill elevated to the felt line, plate steel on the bottom, fire bricks stood on edge around the edge of the plate steel, then the second 1/4" plate laid on top of the fire bricks.  If you give the egg, and plate steels time to come up to temp, it makes a great crust and makes the top of the pizza nice and bubbly...
