Finally repurposed my "original" cracked base!

I've had my first Large for going on 11 years now.
About 3 or 4 years in I heard a loud pop one night while doing a medium heat cook about @ 350 or so.
Went out on the deck and never could figure out what it was but a few months later while cleaning my draft door I noticed a small crack running straight down and then about halfway across the base on the bottom.
BGE sent me a replacement right away but never got around to changing it out and have cooked with it that way for almost 7 years!
Built an out door kitchen this spring and when I reinstall ed my eggs I figured this was a good a time as any to change at the base!
Today... the cracked base to find a new home and a new purpose!

That's really nice! Great recycling idea!

I've seen them partially buried in the ground and used for fire pits as well!
I've got a fire pit so... a planter it is!SmokingPiney said:Makes for a rather nice planter.I spent most of my money on good bourbon, and bad women...the rest, I just wasted!! -
I've heard of people doing this but this is the first time I've seen it executed. It does look rather sharp.I raise my kids, cook and golf. When work gets in the way I'm pissed, I'm pissed off 48 weeks a year.Inbetween Iowa and Colorado, not close to anything remotely entertaining outside of football season.

I've got a cracked XL base; replacement still in the box. I may see if I can talk the wife into something like this

Clever AND beautiful! Great choice in plants to use with it too - I love that wispy bamboo.

What did you use to cover the vent opening?"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

@Chubby did you use a regular drill bit for the holes? Any special precautions to prevent it from cracking?

I just dragged another Bourbon Barrel home from Kentucky ....this time from Heaven Hill Distillery.
I'm fabricating some other goodies out of the middle of the barrells.
We had a "feels like" temperature of 105 here yesterday... nothing like working outside lol!I spent most of my money on good bourbon, and bad women...the rest, I just wasted!! -
Beautiful job. Regular ceramic pots are really expensive so you saved yourself some money. Lol
