Chicago is a great town- big foodie town. I will let others from the area give specifics but they are known for their beef and deep dish pizza and I guess a Chicago dog. Gibsons isn't a classic Chicago steakhouse and I love Joes (stone crabs). Catch a cubs game if you have time.Greensboro, NC

A well known pizza place would be on my list. Not a chain store pizza place though. Not a huge fan of deep dish, but that would still be on the top of the list right below Wrigley Field. Plus September is one of the best months to catch a game.Steven

Is baseball a popular sport in holland? Watching the Cubs play at Wrigley field is an American Classic.

Hello, Holland,
I happen to live in South Bend. If you are here in September, there is a very good chance the city will be filled with visitors coming to the University of Notre Dame football games. For a few days, the population of the city almost doubles, and traffic within a few miles of the campus can be awful. The campus itself is a big tourist attraction, but parking is limited.
If you are in S.B. for any time, there are a couple of places worth visiting for the food. The finer places, the La Salle Grill and Cafe Navarre, are usually booked up during football weekends. There is a new brew pub called the Crooked Ewe where I've had some very good food, and the beer is better than average. Your relatives may have recommendations, I'm sure.
As to Chicago, there is so much to see and do there, its hard to know where to start. It is still called "the 2nd city," from when it was the 2nd largest in America. tho' now it is the 3rd largest. But the downtown area, called "the Loop," is very fine. Spectacular urban architecture, standing next to Lake Michigan, which is large enough that the eastern shore is invisible even from the tallest skyscrapers. Fine museums, such as the Art Institute, the Field Museum of Natural History, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Adler Planetarium. Etc., etc. Lots of professional sport teams. Music from a fine symphony to blues joints like Buddy Guy's Legends.
Both of the Michelin 3 star restaurants are very difficult to visit, and likewise the 2 star. But the 1 star restaurants generally have reservations available with a few weeks advance notice. Many other very good restaurants.
Check out the lthforum.com online. They maintain a list called "the great neighborhood restaurants." Those are places the members of the forum consider to have some of the finest low to medium cost food in the city. Some of those are also on the Michelin "Bib Gourmand" list. There is very good BBQ from a half dozen places.
Hope your visit is fun.

Hi Holland,
I live in Chicago and am happy to help out with dining and tourism suggests. Feel free to send me private message -- it would be helpful to have more specifics about what it is you want to see, do and eat. If you are interested in seeing a baseball game, I agree that Wrigley is a great ballpark and the Cubs have a lot of home games this September. If you want to see American football, the Bears also have several home games in September, though that is a harder ticket to get.
