Raichlen's "Gulf Coast Shrimp"

I've tried to post this 8 times or more, keep getting the "until approved" message.  I just read that some people are getting posts through by saving them as drafts, then posting them on their iPhones.  I'm going to try that this time, see if it works.   FOLLOW-UP: Well, this time it posted from my computer, first try.  Who knows what's going on with the forum's "machinery."  I hope they straighten it out.

I got a recipe for "Gulf Coast Shrimp" either from this forum or the old one (I forget), that originally came from Steve Raichlen's BBQ Bible, and finally made it last night.  WOW it was good!  I think it may have jumped to the top of my list of favorite grilled shrimp dishes.  I may have to buy that book and see if the rest of the recipes are that good.  If any of you have it, I'd be interested in recommendations.

The sauce (the marinade, cooked) was wonderful, but my wife and I agreed that the shrimp, having marinated in it for 2h, was so good all by itself that we didn't really think dipping it in the sauce improved it any.  Really good!

That is some killer looking shrimp.  I have not read the book, but I seen it referenced on here many times.

You will probably never see this comment...but it looks great!

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Those looks awesome.  Would it be possible for you to share the recipe?  I'm taking the family to the beach in a couple of weeks and would love to have this one night.
    Thanks.

Maybe it's one of these recipes; http://barbecuebible.com/2014/06/03/buying-shrimp/
I'm pretty sure I have the cookbook at home.  Will try and take a pic of the recipe.

That really looks good. I had came to the conclusion that Raichlen was more show than substance on his TV shows. It does look like he has some good recipes.

Yes, with one small difference: I Googled the recipe, found it in Raichlen's book on Google Books, and the last two items in the recipe above are different.  Raichlen's recipe calls for "dark cane syrup," but says if you can't find that, you could use dark corn syrup.  He says nothing about molasses.  I have some "golden cane syrup, but I don't know if that's the same as what Raichlen uses, which he said was Steen's.  So, to be specific, the recipe on the link above calls for:

    1/2 cup Corn syrup, dark
    1/4 cup Molasses

    Raichlen's calls for:

    3/4 cup dark cane syrup

It could be that whoever decided to use a mixture of dark corn syrup and molasses had a better idea, I don't know.  I think I'm going to order some Steen's another time and see if it's even better.

Yeah they might have modified it to work with what they could find or had in the kitchen. Thanks for the info. Look forward to trying this out!
