Happy Independence Day USA from Great Britain! - What's cooking?

Happy 4th of July folks from me here in the UK. Sad that you wanted independence from us in 1776, we're not all that bad are we?

So what's cooking for tomorrow then friends?

Love your country (only been once but loved it) and love your friendliness. Forums in the UK are a totally different thing, people point out your mistakes, rather than trying to help out!

Enjoy your day tomorrow, may there be many successful BBQ's!!

Cheers!

Don't worry. Your post count usually needs to hit 100 before this starts happening!

As an American living in Canada, I've become familiar with the Canada Day (July 1) holiday. No war involved in Canada's "independence"; which really seems very... Canadian!  =)

Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.

  • @TexanOfTheNorth thanks for the tip. I look forward to being slated in about 69 posts time!!

@YukonRon When you say ribs, what cut do you mean? Over here, if you ask for ribs you get spare ribs, which don't have much meat, but are awesome. If you ask for belly ribs, you get literally pork belly sliced up per rib which are double awesome, but you don't tend to get them in a rack as such.

These are just regular spare ribs, smoked low and slow with maple and pecan. I am cooking these for my niece, they are her favorite. She and her mother and father, are heading overseas in a few days to their new state department post. It will be a couple of years before I get to see them again.

I will say we got it right in 1776 (some very smart guys made it happen-and their writing is orders of magnitude better than you would get today.)
That said, you got it right in WWII.  Guess that's why the relationship is what it is today.
And I have enjoyed every minute I have spent in your country.  Wish we could import the true pub environment here.  Alas, very doubtful.
And thank you for the greetings!

  • @YukonRon May they be the best ribs you've ever done. Something to remember you by! The years will fly by I know it.

@lousubcap The pub is a very special thing. I was in my local "boozer" this evening watching Serena Williams scrape a win against our Heather Watson. So close to a major upset. What a lovely atmosphere though. Men and women all together shouting at the TV!

Love your country. One thing I would love to bring over here is tailgating. We just don't have that culture over here. Probably because the weather is generally too crap!

@CriggyBites- Okay-so how does everyone get so fired up for the futbol matches if they aren't pre-primed?  ?Never did get to one of those but it looks like many are orbiting the match at least above 30,000 ft once the match kicks off :peace:

  • Don't get me started on "soccer"!! I am an ex player and now massive fan of "rugby football", not interested in soccer at all whatsoever. Google the Leicester Tigers, they are my team, and are a million miles from soccer teams and all the nonsense and overpaid shite that goes with it. Premiership football over here is dead to me, lots of massively overpaid prima-donnas who think they are above the law, earning a disproportionate amount of money compared to the entertainment they provide.

Whoa, strayed away from the subject matter, but not everyone in England is a football fan, there are a growing number of us who see it as evil!!!

With that I think I will let this side of the thread take a pause.  Thanks for your candid inputs.  Perhaps we also inherited the prima-donna athletes :peace:
