Store Brand Lump
LadyGT
Posts: 109
I was going through the Kroger food ads and noticed they had their own lump for sale. It was 8 pounds or so for about $5.99. I was wondering if anybody tried store brands instead of the well known brands. After all, there are only so many companies who make lump. BGE does not make their own from what I read here. Maybe the same company who makes for the major labels makes for store brands too.

Never seen a store brand up here but, buy a bag and see how it works out!---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.____________________Aurora, Ontario, Canada

@LadyGT ... try it, you just might really like the lump. I found some really awesome long burning no spark lump at a small gas station a few months ago, gonna ride the lump they they run out.I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.

I already have 4 bags of RO sitting in the garage. My husband does not use his egg as much as the majority of the members here. Me thinks it's because how long it takes to get the lump started compared to a gas grill. It's such a production to get the electric starter out because no outside outlet on the patio.

How about trying a different way to light it?THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

Lazzari Mesquite, $14.85 for 40 pounds. Only filled up about a third of a 5 gallon pail with fines....

Forget the electric starter. I just use 3 pieces of waded paper towel covered with a little vegetable oil. There are also starter cubes and plenty of other non-electrical ways to start the egg.LadyGT said:I already have 4 bags of RO sitting in the garage. And, honestly, there's no comparison to food cooked on an egg vs. a gasser! IMO, the short wait is worth it.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I believe the Kroger branded lump is repackaged Royal Smoke.
I have found a way to stop Royal Oak from smoking on startup. The day before, fill and light as usual. When the smoke clears, shut down the vents until the next day and re-light the unused lump without adding any.
No smoke.

As mentioned above, the Kroger private brand is produced by Royal Oak. Same for GFS if you have one of those in your area. Lump discussion here is akin to religion in most other circles.
