What could have caused this temperature spike?

I noticed this in my overnight pork shoulder cook. My pit held a nice constant temp and then it shot up. Just curious what you guys think caused it?  I did not open the dome. Could the Fire maybe have hit a new piece of lump or some hickory chips?  What do you guys think?

Not trying to be a smart a$$, but your fan kicked on several times just before which caused the spike.  Now, not sure why it spiked that one time since looking back, the fan did the something earlier and your temp held the line just fine.  Maybe just a freak of nature.

I think a nosey neibor was seeing what smelled so good in the middle of the night.

The lump pile isn't a homogenous medium, so I think your guess is probably correct.  The fire moves around in the fire bowl, lump collapses as some burns up, your smoke chunks could add extra heat.

It looks like the unit and fan worked as expected ... I don't see an abnormal spike or fan run just before the temp started climbing.  But, I do see where the fan stopped running while the temp was above target ... then kicked in nicely once the temp came back down.  The secondary spike was probably a result of the reduced dampening in the electronics ... similar to the temperature oscillation that you see at the beginning of the cook.  Love the graph porn ... thanks.
