Butts over beans?

Anyone smoke pork butts over a pot of beans? Wondering if it will make the beans too greasy. Seems like an awesome use of time, smoke, and juices.

It should work, but I would probably collect the drippings separately and then add them to the beans so I can control the amount of drippings added.

Not over... IN! It's going to be my next butt cook for sure!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Cool links. The thing is, my plan was to make my first pulled pork, trying to get a nice bark and all. The beans were kind of an afterthought. Not sure I'm willing to stray too far for this go-around....

I've done ribs over a pan of beans and they were awesome. Wait and put the beans in after the meat has cooked for a couple of hours.

Having seen the amount of fat that renders when I smoke a pork butt, I would not do it, it would be way too greasy. There is also enough internal fat in a butt that trimming it probably would not help enough. Cooking up some bacon and having that in with the beans is excellent IMHO, and you could sure add some cooked pork to the beans at the end of the cook, or when servingXLBGE, Small BGE, Homebrew and GuitarsRochester, NY
