Good morning,
As the thread title says this is my first time purchasing a BGE. While I have done a lot of research on which Kamado grill to buy (BGE, Vision, Acorn, Primo, etc), it always comes back to BGE. Seems like the warranty, accessories, and customer service justify the cost over the others. Now it's just my wife and I with the occasional small get together so I was leaning towards the BGE medium. Here's the problem. I'm currently stationed at Ramstein AB, Germany. I've looked at some of the "local dealers" and it seems they charge 2x the $$$. There is a possibility that I can have one shipped back on a flight from Baltimore every month but would need to have some connection in the Andrews AFB area. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I've been without grilling capabilities for a few months now and I'm not sure how much longer I can take it. Thanks in advance.

Yes, this can be done. You need to find a person who is willing to pack a pallet/crate on your behalf and also make sure it is shipped with care. We have shipped many from west coast only to have the customer not pay attention to how it was handled and it arrives with damage and no way to get parts. That being said, we also have customers who have carefully crated Eggs while still in packaging and they arrive okay. Get insurance and build a padded crate. Sounds like you have a connection of freight, work with someone over here and you will be fine. Sorry, we are on the wrong side of the country for you. Good luck, you are gonna love the Egg.
Dizzy Pig in VA could be a pickup point for someone you find to handle the shipping. Chris, who owns Dizzy Pig is a good guy.-SMITTY

Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint. -
Thanks Smitty. Do you happen to know a ballpark figure on what it would cost to ship one over here?

No, I really don't. If you have to pay for crating and shipping, it may be the same as buying it over there. The actual freight cost makes these more expense the farther away from Atlanta you are.-SMITTY

it would we great PR for an ace hdwe near Washington to sell you the egg & help crate it. My concern would be how do they coordinate with proper people at Andrews to assure crate will be accepted/inspected for security etc.
Is original poster implying he could get free shipping via Andrews? (hey put it on Air Force 1 lol)
If the logistics (crating/shipping) are cheap enough it might be fun
