I'm Not having much luck today I was cooking indirect and decided to take it out to cook my chicken was around 500f as I pulled the setter out, I burnt through my glove thus i had to drop it....I know Im weak. Plate setter breaks on the side of egg. I nearly cried. The setter cracked straight through clean. Went to my local KENT store and bought so High Temp Cement.....Thoughts ? Pictures to follow. Also the Plate setter Chipped the Egg...Called my local BGE store and the owner had some Touch up paint, Even let me bring it home to use it.....I will attach Pictures....

Wouldn't trust the cement for either function or health.
Use this as an oppurtunity to buy a Woo and stone or a full AR setup.Maybe your purpose in life is only to serve as an example for others? - LPL

I ran my large egg over with my truck and it shattered into pieces. I hope my story helps a little"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

Hopefully the beer was empty or that was alcohol abuse and you might have to go to meetings for that sort of thing... I'd go with either the woo/AR stone set up myself or the cast iron plate setter. I have the cast iron plate setter and woo2 set up for my large and it works well for me.Large and Mini BGE

So nobody thinks I should use the old Setter... I had read a forum that talked about using this product also when I was with the dealer he basically said " just make sure the first time you use it, just do a burn".

For what the health of myself and my family is worth (way more than a CGS invoice would come to); I wouldn't cook on that platesetter either.
That being said, there may be absolutely NO issue with the cement you used, but i'd be worried about any kind of odors/fumes/gases which may come from the cement.
Maybe if you post exactly what you used to fix the platesetter (pictures etc), somebody on here could determine whether or not it's safe....[Insert clever signature line here] -
There have been some who have drilled holes and used stainless mending straps and hardware to bridge the fracture.....

Your egg looks badass now that it has battle wounds! Ain't no pretty boy anymore"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

One of the first things I learnt from folks on the forum was to have great landing areas close to the egg.. Good luck going forward.Greensboro North Carolina

Next time use your deck box. It slows the fall:

Maybe you could check with the manufacturer? Don't they use some kind of stove or refractory cement when they build wood fired ovens? If it is the same stuff then I would think it should be fine.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Damn, @Ozzie_Isaac! I bet that smelled BAD burning thru that plastic!!!!! Did the PS survive?

Not my deck box guys. Saved that from a thread a little while ago. I will find out whose it was.
Found it: @Mayberry accidently did that.Maybe your purpose in life is only to serve as an example for others? - LPL

You'll be fine with that high temp cement. I used refractory cement to build my tandoor and i can still spull... I mean spell... reasonably well.
But take this as a sign that the universe wants you to buy an AR. I delayed buying one myself, and felt like kicking myself after the first few times I used it - its that good.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
