older kamado grills

My friend was given a older kamado grill. Unsure what brand or model. My question is it didn't come with a daisy wheel to control the heat and there's no temperature gauge in the dome. Anyone have experience with how to control the heat with the older kamado grill?

Looks Like this 1. There's no temperature gauge in the dome and it only came with cap to snuff the fire.Ewa Beach, Hawaii

You don't need a gauge in the dome, a maverick will tell you all you need to know. Assuming you have a bge? See if your daisy wheel fits.I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.

Some people just use foil to control the air flow......check this picture out of one I saw.

Thanks, for all the responses. My friend was asking me all types of questions but I was total lost when I saw his grill.Ewa Beach, Hawaii
