This happened when my long reach tongs slipped off the last steak I did on my Birthday weekend. In particular the 3#  Tomahawk. When it slipped the steak hit the 600℉ pan along w/ the renderings and splashed onto my hand, arm and chest.  Funny thing is I utilize my CI quite a bit for steaks, burgers, fish, etc. And NO booze was not a factor. I always take care to be safe and in this instance it still wasn't enough. And with me working with my hands I'm in a good deal of pain.  Did I go to ER?...no but, followed burn protocol, took food Pr0N pics and ate my meal.
This was the cook that got me. I'll heal and more food will be egged. Be as safe as you can.

I'm guessing by the look of the burn it should say splashed and not slashed when describing the incident. Any who that looks nasty Blake. Glad it wasn't any worse.

Those look painful and also needing attention! I'm a type 2 diabetic and recently I suffered a severe trauma to an entire toe, which led to a blister which soon broke. The raw skin underneath was prone to a serious infection. As a diabetic you don't mess with those problems with the feet. My doctor prescribed a cream meant for burn victims, but it is also suitable for my need. It is 1% silver sulfadiazine cream. A mere 50 gram container was over $50. I swear though in 7 days time with a daily coating of that and a protective bandage healed that toe like new. I'm just thinking in your line of work you must get burnt from time to time and if possible to get your DR to prescribe a small jar of that to treat yourself might be a good idea! BTW I still have 2/3rd of that container left and will keep it on hand - expiration date is 27 months out!

100% agree. I got some sulfadiazine cream from a welding incident. I use the extra when I get a bad burn and I have never pealed. Good stuff. Not sure how I will get more when this runs out.

Thanks Ron. Burns and cuts occasionally. I do have items to help with healing and more so, gauze bandages etc to protect from getting dirt, grease etc into it. But, using a wrench in a tight quarters and whacking it against a piece of steel that doesn't move is definitely painful. I keep it clean and fresh dressings.

I use honey on burns.  Real honey not high fructose fake stuff.  It helps heal very fast.

Used honey on a guy's knee after ACL reconstruction that had a failed primary closure after surgery. Honey and sugar combo healed him very quickly. He ended up playing pro basketball in Europe for 10 years. Country-style medicine works!

agree, though, those burns could use some of the dressings and creams mentioned above to keep scarring at minimum. The index finger one concerns me the most.

Thanks for the PSA.  I think I might be tempted to pay my doctor a visit on this one.  I would want to make sure that I got started on the right healing regiment from the beginning.  I've had burns myself before and never went to the doctor, but I don't like that deep red color on your index finger.  This looks like it could be potentially serious if it should get away from you.  Easier to prevent a bad infection than fight it.  You said it yourself, you work with your hands on the job.

@NPHuskerFL On second thought I think you should amputate.  Probably at the elbow to be safe.

@DaveRichardson I've seen a hand surgeon use betadine and sugar on a ton of wounds and swears by it. Pretty cool stuff

This is why I cringe every time I see one of Mickey's wok deep fry cooks. Or anyone else's of course. One little slip...

Scares the hell out of me!

    Hope you heal quickly!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

@Carolina Q Yep Michael all kinds of bad could happen with  frying.  Doesn't mean I wouldn't try it. But, I would heed safety first and foremost. Bottom line... Be safe, understand and take precautions to avoid harm to yourself, others and property.

Real mean don't use tongs and eat their meat raw.  If you are going to be a tong using girly man then suffer  the consequences.
