Looking to purchase a Maverick starter(screws onto the small propane cylinder - $25 or so). Is this worth the cost? Ibuy enough of the little cylinders when we go camping. Iuse the EGG starter blocks and have no complaints, but live in a small town and are hard to find sometimes. W

Love my torch, not that brand, but I have lit coals in 20 sec and can light multiple spots in less than a minute. I'm lazy and impatient so it works well for me.
Just watch out for sparks. -
i would be apprehensive sticking a propane tank down into the egg. i used to use the mapp torches but had two tossed into the lake when the guts wore out and burst into flames in my hands. weed burner is the way to go if napkin and oil is not your style

I dont know anything about the maverick, but I use a Bernzomatic torch head like the one below. It is built like a tank. It is a little more than the price you quoted (mid 30s I think) but worth every penny. I even use it for things other than starting my BGE.

This keeps me out of the Sparks and the tank out of the egg. $35 neighborhood

I use the same bernzomatic with yellow mapp torch tanks and love it. plus you can easily pick up refills at home depot.Franklin, TN - (1) LBGE and a cooler full of beer

I'm a mapp torch guy, been using them for plumbing soldering for decades, great egg starter.

I recently purchased the Bernzomatic weed burner, but have not yet tried it. I usually just use the Rutland Fire Starter Squares and cut them in half. Very cheap and work well. About $20 for 144 squares on Amazon.

Red Dragon gets good reviews on Amazon which is why I selected it. I have the 500,000 btu version, which may be way overkill (don't have my egg yet, it was purchased for clearing brush). This thing feels like a flame thrower.

They make them from 25,000 btu and up. All on Amazon.
