Finally did it

I just broke my platesetter after 15 years. Taking it off to start a new fire, it slipped out of my hand and one of the legs was broken. It still works but a little slope to one side. Any of you have a cast iron griddle platesetter? How do they compare if you do.

I have the cast iron plate setter and love it. Works good to deflect for indirect but also is a good burger, steak, shrimp griddle. If you're close to central Ohio, I'll let my large plate setter (ceramic) go for a song.

Mine has had a crack for about 6 months.  Sent a note to my dealer to get it fixed and then the regional distributor.  Said it needed to be broken.

Not sure what would happen if it failed when I was cooking and ruined $300+ worth of meat.

Sorry to hijack your post, just venting.
  • I would like to have a griddle grate but damn the price. $200. I can still use my original setter but it leans a little. lol. Probably get another original one

Check out the PSWoo2 from Ceramic Grill Store. You'll still be able to use your PS and it works much better for me than removing the PS and the grid separately. It's only about $46 if I recall.

I've never had a BGE platesetter but I have the CI griddle/PS.  I love it but don't know any differently.
I do love that I can use the griddle for steaks and chops and such.  I bought it at my local BGE dealer for $90.

I second the Woo idea  as a low $$ soln if you don't want an AR  ..gets you to the felt line and makes it easy to remove the whole shooting match quickly if you wanna go direct after a L&S
