Frozen Butt

Has anyone ever frozen an uncooked pork butt? I like to buy mine from Sams Club, but the two 7lb sections are too much sometimes for just family cooks.
Any of you ever freeze one? Does it deminish the quality? Do you vacuum seal? How long does it take to thaw. Thanks!

All the time, I have 3 in my deep freezer right now. You can even cook them from frozen, just takes a few hours longer. I would vac seal if they aren't cryovaced from the store.

I've heard this is fine to do, and have one frozen now. I plan on 3 days to thaw but if you do a search on this forum I think others have cooked butts even partially frozen.

Sure. I have one in my freezer now. They can be cooked from frozen too, they just take longer. Some even prefer them that way. I have not done it, but that's what I've read.
They don't have to be vac sealed, but they will freezer burn more quickly if not.I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

While I have nothing of value to add to this thread I will offer that SWMBO loves a deal-regardless of the price being greater than zero "Look how much we saved" is the mantra. So how does this fit-I have smoked a four year freezer aged turkey, several two year freezer aged rib roasts and I can't count the year aged BGE Q meat. YMMV-
Edit-I do pay attention to the brisket stable-I aggressively manage those

Sometimes I buy a butt then something comes up and can't use it. So I have cooked from frozen several times and have noticed no difference. When I was using the wsm it took a lot longer from frozen, I barely notice a difference in time with the EGG.
