Long week. My grandfather was buried today. 98 years old. He was part of that greatest generation.

Married at 17...lasted 66 years
Radar man on the USS HUBBARD during WW2 chasing submarines
Worked for the USPS for 40 years

The most giving and self sacrificing man I've ever known. Always enjoyed a cold PBR after working in his yard. I'll raise a few to him tonight. He'll be missed.

The (hen)apple doesn't fall far from the tree.  I'm sure he was damn proud of you.  Raising one for you and your family.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Sorry for your loss. Glad you had him for so many years.

I visited the WWII memorial in DC today and kept thinking of those that served in WWII.

Sorry to hear this. I'll raise a brew for him tonight. Maybe I owe my love for purloined PBR's to him. I thank him for that.

I'm sorry for your loss.  I'm working tonight, but I'll raise one for him and you tomorrow.

It probably won't be a PBR, though.

I lost my father in August.  He was 90 and also served in WWII.  I get it - as do many others here.

Sorry for your loss. I lost my grandmother last month.  She was 87 and one of the original Rosie the Riveters welding on warships during WWII. Greatest woman I have ever known, but I am  at peace knowing she lived a long and fulfilled life. I can only be so lucky to live a life like her and your Grandfather!!! May he rest in peace.

My grandmother worked for Sunbeam in Nashville making rations. Truly a different generation. I'm really not sad. Today was a celebration of a life well spent.
Tony... My pop passed almost 6 years ago at 87. He was a B17 pilot and both he and my mom are part of the greatest generation. Special doesn't even begin to describe the balls that generation had and screwed on for us... Used a similar line at the end of my dad's eulogy

My grandparents passed long before I got here; and I'm a little jelly that you got to know this man for several years.

All I can say; is make sure every day that we make our lives worth their sacrifice.

My condolences.  Those old guys are the best to share a beer with.   When we lose them, we are losing more than just a person.  Their outlook and stories are invaluable.

Sorry for your loss Tony.  My grandfather passed away in 1969 - WWI vet - and things still occur that remind me of him.  Happy memories about him ... hope you find the same peace.

Washington, IL  >  Queen Creek, AZ ... Two large eggs and an adopted Mini Max

  • I'm glad today was a celebration of him. If there's such a thing as a good funeral, it is that.  I have no PBR so Bud will have to do.  Cheers!
