Iceless Coolers

Igloo has a line of ice less coolers that run off of 12vdc or plug into the wall. Anybody out there own one of these? I wonder if they're any good. Seems like the ticket for road trips and I could pre cool it beforehand. Thanks in advance.

I have one and we use it all the time.  When running, it will keep the temperature 20-30 degrees lower than the outside temperature.  So, on very hot days it won't get cool enough.  We keep a couple of those "blue ice" type plastic thingies in our house freezer and put them in the electric cooler on hot days.  The electric cooler makes the blue ice last longer and lowers the temperature inside the cooler.

If we are traveling over many days, most hotels have small refrigerators in the room where we can refreeze the blue ice.  This combination works very well for us.

As a bonus, the electric cooler can also heat food. When we FTC a brisket, we use the electric cooler in heat mode (we have an AC to 12 volt adapter in the house).

@DMW - that is a nice one.  Has a compressor so no 30F differential issues.

@DMW  & @nolaegghead I could be mistaken but, the unit your referencing of @texaswig is an ARB?  If it's the one I'm thinking of that thing could be used to sell some alleyway kidneys NP.

@DMW and @nolaegghead @NPHuskerFL. Haha. It only stings a little when you first buy it. I also use it in my work vehicle/caming/adventure/take the kid places in style. If things go bad I can always sell ice cream out of my van. The way I sold it to my wife is " a bag ice is 2 bucks!"

@nolaegghead they're you go.took a hour to pull it down from 32° to 02°. Oh and that's dc. It's a variable speed  compressor.  It runs harder on 110v.

@texaswig - Fahrenheit?  That's pretty impressive!  Will it keep ice in a 120F van?

Yeah Fahrenheit. I know itll keep 28° that's where I keep it if there's only beer in there. I did put dark tint and vent visors to keep the windows cracked.
